Professor Dan Reinstein from the London Vision Clinic has observed that frequent computer use can lead to CVS, resulting in a reduced blink rate (from 18-20 times per minute to only 4-7 times) and various vision issues like blurred vision and dry eyes. To prevent the onset of CVS, Professor Reinstein suggests following some simple measures.

Furthermore, common symptoms of CVS include red eyes, eye pain, headaches, and double vision, among others. Professor Reinstein provides several strategies to prevent CVS and maintain healthy eyes:

Take regular breaks, preferably at least once every hour when working on a computer, and avoid looking at the screen during these breaks.

  1. Be mindful of maintaining a regular blink rate.
  2. Keep the computer screen clean by regularly wiping it.
  3. Stay hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water.
  4. Position the computer in a way that prevents direct light from windows, room bulbs, or lamps falling directly on the screen or into the eyes.
  5. Be cautious of the drying effects of air conditioning and fans, as they can increase the risk of CVS. Pay attention to the surrounding environment.
  6. It is advisable not to wear contact lenses while using the computer.
  7. Schedule regular eye examinations to monitor eye health.

9.    For individuals who spend long hours in front of screens, Practice the 20-20-20 rule. It is important to give your eyes regular breaks. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something that is at least 20 feet away. This exercise helps to reduce eye strain and allows your eyes to refocus.

10. Good nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining overall eye health. Include foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, in your diet. Leafy green vegetables, citrus fruits, fish, nuts, and colorful fruits and vegetables are beneficial for your eyes. Additionally, staying hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day is important for maintaining optimal eye health.

By implementing these guidelines, one can reduce the likelihood of developing CVS and ensure the well-being of their eyes.
